Dr. Okiror Paul is a Ugandan neurosurgeon and health systems professional based at Makerere University College of Health Sciences and Mulago National Referral Hospital. A highly motivated and skilled doctor, he is experienced in managing emergency and critical care cases, performing both minor and major neurosurgical and general surgical operations.

He holds a Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Systems Management and Administration from the Uganda Management Institute. His clinical interests include cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, neurocritical care, and intensive care management.

Dr. Okiror has served in various medical and teaching capacities at Mulago National Referral Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, Lacor, and Cure Children’s Hospital, Mbale. He is recognized for his integrity, teamwork, and commitment to advancing neurosurgical practice and patient care.

Leading the Future of Neurosurgery in Uganda

Dr. Kadhaya David Muballe is a highly accomplished Specialist Neurosurgeon and Consultant at Ruby Hospital Kampala, with extensive experience in clinical practice, academic instruction, and research across South Africa and the United States. He currently holds joint appointments as Head of Neurosurgery at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth and Professor of Neurosurgery at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) and Nelson Mandela University (NMU).

His clinical expertise spans a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, complemented by a strong commitment to teaching and departmental leadership. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as a Specialist Neurosurgeon and Senior Lecturer at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital and WSU.

Dr. Muballe’s academic background is marked by advanced training from leading institutions in Kenya, the United States, and South Africa. He earned a PhD in Neurosciences from Walter Sisulu University in 2017, focusing on traumatic brain injury (TBI) management, oxidative stress, and inflammation. His qualifications also include a Fellowship of the College of Neurosurgeons of South Africa (FC Neurosurgery SA), an MMED in Neurological Surgery from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Diploma in Neurosurgery from the University of Washington (Seattle), and an MMED in General Surgery from the University of Nairobi.

An active researcher and academic leader, Dr. Muballe has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on TBI outcomes, pediatric head injuries, and neuro-monitoring biomarkers. He continues to contribute to the advancement of neurosurgery through postgraduate training, mentorship, and clinical innovation.

Dr. Blessing Michael Taremwa is a highly skilled neurosurgeon with advanced international training in neurovascular and skull base surgery. He is a Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol, UK, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) England.

He completed a Neurovascular and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at the Institute of Neurosciences, Medanta Hospital, India, and holds the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (FCS-ECSA).

Dr. Taremwa’s research focuses on adjacent segment disease and central nervous system tumor patterns in tertiary centers. His work has been presented at international neurosurgical conferences in South Africa and Uganda.

With extensive experience in trauma care and complex neurosurgical procedures, Dr. Taremwa combines technical expertise with a strong commitment to advancing brain and spine health through research, teaching, and patient-centered care.
